A patient has taken legal action against a rehabilitation hospital, alleging negligence in his medical care. Anthony Chesko filed a complaint on April 29, 2025, in the Circuit Court for the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Largo, LLC. The lawsuit claims that Chesko suffered severe consequences due to the hospital's failure to provide adequate care during his stay.

The case centers around Chesko's admission to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital from July 17, 2024, to August 1, 2024. During this period, Chesko was diagnosed with quadriplegia following an ischemic stroke and was entirely dependent on others for daily activities. Upon admission, he had a sacral decubitus ulcer and was at significant risk for further skin breakdown. Despite this known risk, the plaintiff alleges that the hospital staff allowed his condition to deteriorate into an infected and unstageable wound by failing to implement timely preventive measures.

Chesko's attorney asserts that a reasonable investigation revealed grounds for believing negligence occurred in his client's treatment. The complaint accuses Encompass of breaching its duty of care by not adequately preventing skin breakdown and failing to develop an appropriate care plan. As a result of these alleged failures, Chesko experienced worsening injuries and long-term suffering. The plaintiff seeks damages exceeding $50,000 for bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, medical expenses, and loss of earning capacity.

Representing Anthony Chesko is Brett Berger from Berger Fernandez PLLC. The case has been assigned Case Number: 25-002256-CI in the Circuit Court for Pinellas County.
