A Clearwater retail store is facing legal action after a customer alleges negligence led to her severe injuries. On January 14, 2025, Jane Engdahl filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Surf Style Retail Management, Inc., doing business as Surf Style.

The lawsuit stems from an incident on November 20, 2023, when Engdahl visited the Surf Style location at 315 S. Gulfview Blvd., Clearwater. As a business invitee and guest on the premises, Engdahl claims she was owed a duty of care by the defendant to ensure her safety. According to the complaint, Surf Style failed to maintain its flooring adequately and neglected to warn Engdahl of potential hazards. This alleged negligence resulted in Engdahl slipping on a liquid substance near the entrance area and sustaining significant personal injuries.

Engdahl's complaint outlines several accusations against Surf Style. These include failing to maintain safe flooring conditions, creating slip hazards, neglecting inspections or warnings about dangerous conditions, and inadequately training staff to handle such risks. The plaintiff also accuses Surf Style of not adhering to its own policies regarding floor safety and failing to enforce procedures that could have prevented her fall.

As a result of these alleged oversights, Engdahl claims she suffered bodily injury leading to pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, permanent scarring, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of earnings capacity, and aggravation of pre-existing conditions. She argues that these losses are either permanent or ongoing and will continue into the future.

In her lawsuit, Engdahl seeks damages exceeding $50,000 from Surf Style Retail Management for their purported negligence. She demands a jury trial for all issues triable by jury.

Representing Jane Engdahl is attorney Megan Tiralosi from Morgan & Morgan Tampa P.A., while details about defense counsel remain undisclosed at this stage. The case is presided over by Judge Ken Burke under Case Number: 25-000158-CI.
