A shocking incident at a Boca Raton hotel has led to a lawsuit that could have significant repercussions for the hospitality industry. On August 13, 2024, Holley Valerie filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, against Green Sapphire Hospitality LLC, doing business as Embassy Suites Boca Raton.

The lawsuit stems from an incident on April 26, 2024, when Valerie was staying at the Embassy Suites Boca Raton. According to the complaint, while brushing her teeth in her hotel room's bathroom, a large wooden board suddenly fell on her. The board was approximately 4.5 feet long, 15 inches wide, and 1-2 inches thick. Valerie claims she sustained severe and permanent bodily injuries due to this unexpected event. The plaintiff alleges that the hotel failed to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition and did not warn her of any potential hazards.

Valerie's legal team argues that Embassy Suites had multiple opportunities to prevent this accident but failed in their duty of care. "Defendant owed Plaintiff a non-delegable duty to inspect, clean and maintain the aforementioned hotel rooms in a reasonably safe condition," states the complaint. It further alleges that the hotel's negligence included failing to adequately inspect or maintain the room and failing to warn guests about potential dangers like loose boards.

The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of earnings both past and future, and other related costs. The actual value of Valerie's claim will be determined by a jury trial as per Article 1, Section 21 of the Florida Constitution.

Representing Holley Valerie is Brittany A. Panter from Morgan & Morgan P.A., based in Naples, Florida.

The Case Number is: 502024CA007629XXXAMB Div: AO.
