In the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, Christina Marie Manea has filed a lawsuit against Apyx Medical Corporation, formerly known as Bovie Medical Corporation. The case number is 24-001080-CI and was filed on March 6, 2024. The complaint alleges personal injury damages caused by a defective medical product named Renuvion which was used during an elective cosmetic surgery on January 4, 2022.

The plaintiff's counsel argues that the defendant knowingly manufactured, marketed and sold Renuvion for off-label use against federal regulations, causing personal injuries and bodily harm to customers. As a result of using this product, Manea suffered adverse and permanent health consequences including burning, scarring and disfigurement. The court has subject matter jurisdiction as the action seeks damages in excess of $50,000.

Manea is seeking judgment for her injuries caused by the defective medical product. She alleges that Apyx Medical Corporation's actions were despicable conduct deserving of punishment due to their extensive experience in the medical device industry understanding the risks involved.
