Chanel claims Amazon sellers are offering counterfeit versions of its products

MIAMI – A New York corporation alleges several Amazon sellers are selling counterfeit goods.

Chanel Inc. filed a complaint on Sept. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against 2012merry2013, Aleks431224, Bennett Xanthe, et al. alleging trademark infringement and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that it suffered damages from the infringement of its products. The plaintiff holds 2012merry2013, Aleks431224, Bennett Xanthe, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly distributed products, including handbags, tops and phone cases, that have similar marks as plaintiff's products, which it alleges causes confusion among consumers. The suit states the defendants sold the counterfeit products on Amazon and other online stores.

The plaintiff seeks to enjoin the defendant from further infringing plaintiff's trademark, award plaintiff all profits and damages resulting from the alleged infringement, statutory damages in the amount of $2 million per each counterfeit trademark, all legal fees and interest plus any other relief as the court deems just.
