Cruise passenger alleges she was injured on watercraft excursion tour

Cruise 02

MIAMI – An Oasis of the Seas cruise ship passenger alleges she fractured her pelvis on an excursion tour because of hazardous water conditions.

Natascha Van Der Stoop filed a complaint on Aug. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Miami Division against Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD, doing business as Royal Caribbean International and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 17, 2012, she joined an excursion for a Jet Ski/WaveRunner tour that occurred at Coco Cay in the Bahamas, which was operated by the defendant. The suit states that the plaintiff's Jet Ski/WaveRunner struck a wave and caused her to fracture her pelvis, disability, mental anguish, expense of hospitalization, loss of earnings and aggravation of a previously existing condition. The plaintiff holds Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly owed a duty to its passengers to determine whether it was safe to operate a Jet Ski/WaveRunner at the time of the tour, should have known the water conditions were too rough and failed to take care in the instruction of operating the watercraft.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant and all allowable compensatory damages. She is represented by Barry S. Friedman of The Friedman Law Firm in Boca Raton.
