Woman files suit after breaking leg on ship

Cruise 08

MIAMI – A cruise passenger alleges the ship's staff did not provide her appropriate medical care after she broke her leg.

Cynthia Kay Wood filed a complaint on July 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD, doing business as Royal Caribbean International, alleging negligence, false imprisonment and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Aug. 7, 2015, she experienced severe pain when she broke her leg while participating in an event on the ship. She alleges staff did not treat her for 30 hours until they arrived in Galveston, Texas, and that she and her family had to pay for medical transport to a hospital. The plaintiff holds Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide appropriate care, which result in two emergency surgeries and continuing pain for the plaintiff.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks all damages and costs, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by David Avellar Neblett of Perry & Neblett PA in Miami.
