TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Bar filed a petition to the Florida Supreme Court for contempt and order to show cause requesting a one-year suspension against attorney George Joseph Charnota, who practices law in Coral Gables, for alleged noncompliance to past Bar and court inquiries and orders.

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Supreme Court issued an order on April 21 to disbar attorney Angela Morton Armstrong, who practices law in Pinellas County.

TALLAHASSEE – In a recent interview on The Bob Harden Show, state Rep. Kathleen Passidomo discussed the need for tort reform in Florida and how it was affecting jobs and premiums for its citizens.

TALLAHASSEE – Matthew Brennan Cleary III, an attorney who practices in Labelle, was disbarred effective immediately following a Feb. 2 court order for violating the terms of a previous suspension.

MIAMI – In a recently released YouTube video, attorney Jared H. Beck of the Miami-based law firm Beck & Lee Trial Lawyers discusses the class-action complaint his office filed on June 28 against the former Democratic National Committee Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz. 

ORLANDO – William Schifino Jr., managing partner of Burr Forman law firm’s Tampa office, was recently sworn in as the 68th president of the Florida Bar at its annual convention in Orlando.

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Bar Disciplinary Review Committee (DRC) oversees the prosecution and appeals for disciplinary violations by Florida lawyers, and with continuous exposure through social media and news, the Florida Supreme Court has not only become more rigorous in its discipline, but the general population is also watching to see what the Bar is doing to monitor attorneys.

LONGWOOD – Richard Loiseau, an established Longwood, Florida, immigration attorney who also practiced in Indiana, was reinstated on May 4 from a series of suspensions implemented between November 2011 and January 2012.

FORT LAUDERDALE – Greenberg Traurig labor attorney Peter W. Zinober was recognized by Human Resource Executive, Lawdragon, and named into the Hall of Fame, which is the publication’s highest honor, in June.

NAPLES – Legal Aid Service of Collier County’s Managing Attorney Carol A. O’Callaghan was named Woman Lawyer of the Year by the Collier County Women’s Bar Association (CCWBA) recently.
