Kwani Woods filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, on May 2, 2025, accusing 1754 Properties, LLC, doing business as Tradewinds Island Grand, of failing to maintain safe conditions at their St. Pete Beach location.
The lawsuit arises from an incident that occurred on September 19, 2023. Woods alleges that while she was visiting the Tradewinds Island Grand as a business invitee, she slipped and fell on a slippery substance in the hotel's lobby. According to the complaint, Tradewinds had a non-delegable duty to ensure the safety of its guests by maintaining the premises free from hazardous conditions. However, Woods claims that the hotel failed in this duty by allowing a dangerous condition to exist and not implementing proper procedures to identify and rectify such hazards.
Woods' attorneys argue that Tradewinds was negligent in several ways: creating or permitting unsafe conditions by allowing slippery substances on the floor; failing to maintain cleanliness; neglecting to inspect for hazards; and not providing adequate warnings about potential dangers. The complaint further asserts that Tradewinds knew or should have known about these risks but did nothing to mitigate them.
As a result of this alleged negligence, Woods suffered injuries affecting her body and extremities. She reports experiencing pain and mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and has incurred medical expenses due to her injuries.
