A legal battle has emerged in Palm Beach County, Florida, involving a local resident and two prominent businesses over an alleged injury caused by malfunctioning automatic doors. A'Keyah Williams filed a complaint on April 24, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit against Smorgasbord Management Co. and ABC Liquors, Inc., seeking damages exceeding $50,000.

According to the complaint, Williams claims that on March 20, 2024, she was exiting the premises of ABC Fine Wine & Spirits at 6998 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton when an automatic door unexpectedly closed on her. This incident allegedly resulted in serious and permanent bodily injuries. The plaintiff argues that both defendants failed to maintain safe conditions on their property and neglected their duty of care towards her as an invitee.

Williams accuses Smorgasbord Management Co., which managed the premises where the incident occurred, of negligence for not ensuring the safety of its automatic doors. She alleges that they failed to monitor or repair the doors adequately, creating a hazardous environment for customers. "The dangerous condition(s) were created by Defendant...and/or existed for a sufficient length of time," states the complaint, highlighting what Williams perceives as negligence.

Similarly, ABC Liquors is accused of breaching its duty by not addressing known dangers associated with the automatic doors. The lawsuit details how both companies allegedly neglected to warn customers about potential risks posed by malfunctioning doors or take corrective actions despite having knowledge or constructive knowledge of these hazards.

Williams seeks judgment against both defendants for damages related to her injuries. She claims compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings and earning capacity, and other economic losses resulting from the incident. Her attorney emphasizes that these losses are either permanent or continuing in nature.

Represented by Philip Greer from The Injury Firm based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Williams demands a jury trial to resolve this matter. The Case ID: 502025CA003950XXXAMB Div: AE.
