A dramatic legal battle is unfolding in Pinellas County, Florida, where a local resident has filed a lawsuit against two individuals following a severe vehicular accident. Edward Robert John Lewis initiated the complaint on November 23, 2024, in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit, accusing Kelli Danette Gray-Miles and Paul Edmond Miles of negligence and vicarious liability.

The incident at the heart of this case occurred on November 26, 2020. According to the complaint, Lewis was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a 2020 Toyota RAV4 operated by Kelli Danette Gray-Miles with permission from its owner, Paul Edmond Miles. The collision took place on 3rd Street South near the intersection of 14th Avenue South in St. Petersburg. Lewis alleges that Gray-Miles's negligent driving led to significant injuries and suffering. He claims that her actions violated Florida Statute §316.121(1), which pertains to careless driving and constitutes negligence per se.

In his detailed account of the aftermath, Lewis describes enduring bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life. These injuries have reportedly resulted in substantial medical expenses and loss of earnings. The plaintiff contends that these damages are either permanent or ongoing and will continue to affect him in the future.

Lewis further asserts that Paul Edmond Miles is vicariously liable for Gray-Miles's actions under Florida's Dangerous Instrumentality Doctrine. This doctrine holds vehicle owners accountable for any negligent acts committed by those they allow to drive their vehicles. Consequently, Lewis seeks compensation not only from Gray-Miles but also from Paul Edmond Miles as the vehicle's owner.

The lawsuit demands judgment for damages exceeding $50,000 against both defendants. It also calls for a jury trial to determine the full extent of monetary compensation due to Lewis for his injuries and losses.

Representing Edward Robert John Lewis is attorney Jesse D. Berkowitz from Berkowitz & Myer law firm based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The case is presided over by Judge Ken Burke under Case Number: 24-005164-CI.
