A tragic incident at a popular trampoline park has led to a lawsuit that highlights concerns over safety and supervision in recreational facilities. On November 21, 2024, Christy Korifas filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Fly High Parks LLC, doing business as Sky Zone.
The lawsuit stems from an incident on March 14, 2021, when Anixi Korifas, a minor and daughter of the plaintiff Christy Korifas, was injured at the Sky Zone location in Largo, Florida. According to the complaint, Anixi was participating in physical activities at the park when she was struck by another participant who was allegedly not being properly supervised by Sky Zone staff. The complaint asserts that Fly High Parks LLC had a duty to supervise participants and maintain safe conditions on their premises but failed to do so. This failure allegedly resulted in serious injuries to Anixi Korifas.
Christy Korifas accuses Fly High Parks LLC of negligence for several reasons: failing to maintain safe conditions on their property, neglecting to warn about potential dangers, not making reasonable provisions for participant safety, creating dangerous conditions, and failing to supervise participants adequately. The complaint emphasizes that these alleged failures were known or should have been known by the defendant due to their duration.
As a result of these allegations, Christy Korifas is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for her daughter's injuries. These injuries reportedly include bodily harm leading to pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and medical expenses. Additionally, Christy Korifas claims personal losses due to her daughter's injuries such as loss of companionship and services during her recovery period.
The plaintiff demands judgment against Fly High Parks LLC for both compensatory damages related to Anixi's injuries and her own losses as a parent. The case seeks not only financial compensation but also aims to hold the defendant accountable for ensuring better safety measures are implemented in similar recreational settings.
Representing Christy Korifas is Eduardo R. Latour from Latour & Associates P.A., based in Tarpon Springs, Florida. The case is presided over by Judge Ken Burke under Case Number 24-005115-CI.
