A Florida woman has filed a lawsuit against a well-known retail chain, alleging negligence that led to her severe injuries. Latonya Crockett filed the complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, on August 8, 2024, naming Family Dollar Stores of Florida, LLC as the defendant.

According to court documents, Crockett claims that on November 27, 2023, she was a customer at Family Dollar's store located at 850-A 3rd Avenue South in St. Petersburg when she slipped on an accumulated liquid substance in a high-traffic area. The plaintiff asserts that Family Dollar had a duty to maintain its premises in a reasonably safe condition and to warn customers about any dangerous conditions they knew or should have known about. "Defendant breached these duties by allowing a liquid substance to accumulate in a high traffic area accessible to customers," the complaint states.

The incident allegedly resulted in significant physical and emotional suffering for Crockett. She claims to have endured bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for enjoyment of life, and incurred expenses related to hospitalization and medical care. Additionally, Crockett asserts that she has suffered loss of earnings and loss of ability to earn money due to the accident. The complaint notes that these losses are either permanent or continuing and will affect her future.

Crockett is seeking damages exceeding $50,001 from Family Dollar Stores of Florida. She demands judgment against the defendant for damages along with costs and prejudgment interest. Furthermore, she has requested a trial by jury on all issues so triable.

Representing Latonya Crockett is Daniella Rivera from Salter Healy Rivera & Hepter law firm based in St. Petersburg. The case has been assigned Case Number 24-0035 13-CI.
