In a case filed in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Palm Beach County, Florida, plaintiff Thomas F. Carney Jr. is suing defendant Ryan Boylston for damages exceeding $50,000. The lawsuit, identified by case number 502024CA002155XXXAMB and filed on March 7, 2024, revolves around defamatory statements made by Boylston about Carney during their campaigns for mayor of Delray Beach.

The complaint alleges that Boylston published a mailer containing false and damaging information about Carney to potential voters. This included an assertion that Carney was involved in a second hit-and-run incident - a claim which is categorically denied by Carney's legal representation from Tobin, Reyes, Alvarez & De Biase, PLLC. The lawyers assert that public records show no charges or convictions relating to such an incident.

Furthermore, the mailer contained several inflammatory statements attributed to a police report which were not true or accurate according to the actual police report and other facts attested under oath. These included allegations that Carney was intoxicated at the time of an accident and had attempted to leave the scene.

Carney seeks judgment against Boylston for defamation and is demanding damages in excess of $50,000 exclusive of interest, costs, and attorney’s fees.
