Leon County schools sued over bicycle accident

TALLAHASSEE - A father is suing a school board for his son's alleged injury while participating in an activity. 

Steven Harriett, Jr., as parent of Steven Harriett III, a minor, filed a lawsuit on Dec. 20 in Leon County Circuit Court against the School Board of Leon County for negligence.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 3, 2021, Harriett III was participating in Bike Safety Week when one of the provided bicycles locked up and caused him to fall face first onto the pavement and suffer severe injury.

Harriett III suffered permanent injuries, pain and suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of capacity to enjoy life, hospitalization expenses, medical care and treatment, loss of earnings and loss of ability to earn money.

Harriett, Jr. seeks a judgment for damages, prejudgment interest ad costs. Harriett, Jr. is represented by Randy Pelhan of Tallahassee.
