TAMPA - J.C., a minor, by and through his parent and natural guardian, Indy Fermin, filed a complaint on October 8 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court against Hillsborough County Public Schools for personal injury.

According to the complaint, J.C. was on the premises of one of the defendant's schools on October 11, 2017, and while changing classes, he walked through a heavy metal gym door that had a large piece of metal hanging loose at the bottom.

The metal caught on Plaintiff’s ankle, slicing and tearing open his Achilles tendon immediately, the suit says. As a result of the incident, J.C. suffered permanent impairment to his right foot despite having surgery and physical therapy and still suffers a limited range of motion in his right ankle.

J.C. seeks compensatory damages, liquidated damages, interest, taxable costs, cost of suit and attorney's fees. J.C. is represented by Dawn N. Jayma.
