Hot wax burned student's face, lawsuit claims

ORLANDO -- A woman claims to have suffered an injury while attending a Miami cosmetology school.

Valerie A. Cruz filed a complaint on May 10 in Orange County Circuit Court against TSP Institute d/b/a Aveda Institute for negligence. 

According to the complaint, Cruz was attending Aveda Institute on Nov. 23, 2020. On Nov 23, 2020, Cruz was asked to participate as a model student while a teaching staff member was not in charge. 

Cruz alleges that on Nov. 23, 2020, another student burned her face with hot wax and the teacher assigned at the time of the incident later stated that the student had used the wrong type of wax. Cruz alleges that it is because of the institute's neglect that her injuries occurred.
