TAMPA - A wrongful death lawsuit was filed against the Shree Mariamman Devi Temple and several individuals on April 16 in the Hillsborough County Circuit Court.

The complaint was filed by plaintiff Anil Jahagroo representing the estate of Troy Phirangee; the individual defendants include Alvin Mohan Chooyik, a temple employee, and co-owners Pathyil Abraham and Molly Abraham.

The decedent was doing construction work on the premises' roof on May 8, 2019. According to the lawsuit, defendant Chooyik was holding a loaded gun while walking into the building. Chooyik then allegedly tripped on a piece of plywood and accidentally fired the gun upward through the roof, fatally hitting the decedent.

The defendants are charged with wrongful death and vicarious liability. The estate is represented by Maney and Gordon PA of Tampa.
