Adams Middle School teacher accused of assault in new lawsuit

TAMPA - A Hillsborough County woman sued the School Board of Hillsborough County in state court, saying that an Adams Middle School teacher assaulted her minor son, Joncarlos Jonas, in March 2017.

According to documents filed with the court on February 26, Jonas was a student of defendant Luis Rizo and suffered harassment, abuse, intimidation, unwanted touching and bullying, the circumstances of which were not described by the lawsuit. Rizo was charged by authorities over the allegations.

Jonas allegedly suffered bodily injury, physical impairment and disfigurement and other ailments as a result of the alleged abuse. 

Plaintiff Maria Altagracia Burke Cruz sued for negligence, battery, loss of filial consortium, and she seeks at least $30,000 in damages for each count. 

Cruz is represented by the Thurber Law Firm PA of Tampa.
