In a dramatic turn of events, a patient has filed a lawsuit against a prominent medical center and two doctors, alleging severe negligence during her medical treatment. On March 25, 2025, Stephanie Bliss lodged her complaint in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, targeting Palm Beach Gardens Community Hospital, Inc., Vincent Chavanon, M.D., and Mark A. Pinsky, M.D., P.A.
The lawsuit paints a troubling picture of alleged medical malpractice. According to the complaint, Stephanie Bliss had previously visited Gardens Plastic Surgery for consultation regarding breast asymmetry. When she returned for surgery over a year later, Dr. Vincent Chavanon allegedly failed to review her medical records properly and mistakenly performed surgery on the wrong breast. The document claims that this oversight led to an unnecessary reduction of tissue from the left breast instead of addressing the larger right breast. This error was compounded by inadequate post-operative care at Palm Beach Gardens Community Hospital, where Bliss was reportedly admitted under "outpatient" status despite needing close monitoring after surgery.
Bliss's legal team argues that these actions constitute gross negligence on multiple fronts. They assert that Dr. Chavanon's failure to familiarize himself with existing records and his incorrect surgical plan were critical missteps. Furthermore, they allege that the hospital staff neglected vital post-operative procedures by not recognizing signs of bleeding and failing to act on abnormal lab results indicating low hemoglobin levels—a potential sign of internal bleeding.
The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for what she describes as permanent injuries resulting from these alleged lapses in care. These include physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement, and ongoing medical expenses related to hospitalization and rehabilitation. The lawsuit also demands accountability from both individual practitioners and the hospital for their roles in what is described as an avoidable medical crisis.
