TALLAHASSEE — Florida residents in need of legal advice or help will benefit from an enhanced online referral website announced by the Florida Bar.

Through the site, individuals are able to access the services of over 600 attorneys in more than 120 practice areas.

Artificial intelligence purportedly helps users in their searches, which can be done on a computer or mobile device.

Florida Bar president Michelle Suskauer noted that technology was a powerful tool.

“Finding adequate legal counsel can be a stressful and difficult process, with many not knowing there are plenty of resources available to help,” Suskauer was quoted as saying in the organization's news release.

“Technology can be a powerful bridge to open access to our courts. The Florida Bar’s Lawyer Referral Service makes finding an attorney easier and more convenient than ever before.”

Legal technology company Legal.io was instrumental in developing the enhanced platform. Some of the features include the option to select from 12 languages, choice of four different practice areas and an easy and confidential way to locate contact information, according to the Florida Bar website.

“The enhanced Florida Bar Lawyer Referral System is a great tool for those seeking legal help, and can be a valuable resource for Florida Bar members looking to build their practices,” Florida Bar president-elect John Stewart was quoted as saying.

Stewart has committed over two years on this project and said they expect the tool to attract more lawyers going forward.

“We expect these improvements to significantly boost the number of our members signing up, which will also provide a more diverse and deeper pool of attorneys for Floridians to choose from,” he said.
