CLEARWATER — A St. Petersburg bus passenger is suing a transit authority, alleging negligence led to injuries for the plaintiff.

Darrell Williams filed a complaint Jan. 3 in Pinellas County Circuit Court against Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority, alleging failure to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, on June 11, 2018, as Williams tried to reach his seat safely on the defendant's public transportation bus on state Route 75 along 54th Avenue and 34th Street North, St. Petersburg, the bus operator caused the vehicle to abruptly accelerate, causing the plaintiff to fall and sustain severe and lasting injuries.

The plaintiff alleges Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority failed to allow passengers a reasonable amount of time to become safely seated, and failed to warn Williams of the dangerous condition created by its employees.

Williams seeks trial by jury, general damages in excess of $15,000, plus court costs, interests and all other proper relief. He is represented by attorney Jeremy S. Clark of Clark Law in St. Petersburg.
