Government employee alleges plan administrator violated workers compensation act

ORLANDO — A government employee is suing a plan administrator, alleging violation of workers compensation acts.

Pamela Ford filed a complaint Oct. 4 in Orange County Circuit Court against Standard Insurance Company, alleging violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 2, she was notified by Standard Insurance that it was terminating her claim for long-term disability benefits. Ford says she continues to be disabled and is, therefore, entitled to receive her benefits.

The plaintiff alleges Standard Insurance refused to pay all her disability benefits and all contractual interest and penalties.

Ford seeks trial by jury, damages of more than $15,000, exclusive of interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorneys Gregory D. Swartwood and Nicholas Mitchell of The Nation Law Firm LLP in Longwood.
