CLEARWATER — A customer is suing a St. Petersburg dog track venue operator, alleging negligence caused injuries to the plaintiff.

Ralph Carter filed a complaint April 6 in Pinellas Circuit Court against St. Petersburg Kennel Club Inc., doing business as Derby Lane, alleging the gambling venue operator failed to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 17, 2017, while Carter was at Derby Lane as a guest, he was bumped into by one of the defendant's employees, propelling the plaintiff to the floor. Carter says he suffered injuries to his head, body and extremities, incurred medical expenses and suffered impairment, as a result of the employee's negligence.

The plaintiff alleges Derby Lane failed to train and supervise its employees to work in a safe and cautious manner in the performance of their duties, and forced Carter to retain and pay for legal counsel.

Carter seeks a trial by jury and all damages in excess of $15,000. He is represented by attorneys Drew Ben Hudgins and Kenneth A. Minio of Zephyrhills.
