Homeowner seeks coverage from Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Co. over Irma damage

Insurance 08

ORLANDO – An Orlando homeowner has filed suit against her insurer over damages to her property from Hurricane Irma.

Carla Galvin filed a complaint on Nov. 30 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against Universal Property and Casualty Insurance Co. alleging that the defendant breached the policy agreement.

According to the complaint, Galvin alleges that on Sept. 11, Hurricane Irma damaged her property, which was covered under an insurance policy with defendant. The plaintiff claims the policy was in full force and effect during the incident, she was in full compliance with the payments of the policy and timely gave notice to defendant regarding the incident, but the defendant has failed and refused to cover the full property damages.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for property damage, personal property, and/or less of use, together with prejudgment interest, costs and attorneys' fees. She is represented by Steven M. Johnson of Johnson & Williams PA in Orlando.
