Tenant alleges St. Petersburg landlord's negligence led to injuries

CLEARWATER — An injured tenant is suing a St. Petersburg landlord, alleging negligence.

Laura Harris filed a complaint Nov. 27 in Pinellas Circuit Court against DHPI Gateway UC LLC, alleging the landlord failed to use due care to maintain its premises in a safe condition.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 31, 2016, Harris was in her rented apartment at 10600 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg, owned by the defendant. The suit says Harris was injured when she stepped through the floor of the apartment.

As a result of defendant's negligence, Harris says she incurred medical expenses, sustained pain and suffering, lost wages and aggravated pre-existing conditions.

The plaintiff alleges DHPI Gateway failed to replace or repair the floor in her apartment and failed to hire a qualified contractor to do the repair work.

Harris seeks trial by jury, judgment in excess of $15,000, plus interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorney Stephen Kanzer of Morgan & Morgan Tampa PA in Tampa.
