Duke Energy Florida LLC accused of negligence

By Jenie Mallari-Torres | Sep 22, 2017

ORLANDO — An individual is suing Duke Energy Florida LLC for alleged negligence.

Renardo Sneed filed a complaint on Aug. 9 in the Orange County Circuit Court, alleging that the defendant failed to follow applicable safety guidelines and regulations.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he was in the backyard of a property attempting to trim trees on Aug. 8, 2016 when he allegedly was electrocuted by the power lines owned, operated, maintained and controlled by the defendant due to the overgrowth of the trees that allegedly hid the power lines running near or through the backyard. As a result, the plaintiff allegedly suffered physical and mental pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, medical costs and loss of earnings.

The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to adequately trim and maintain trees surrounding its power lines, maintain adequate visibility or warnings to alert homeowners to high voltage exposure and for allegedly failing to perform routine inspections of the trees surrounding the power lines.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for damages, exclusive of attorneys' fees, costs and interest. He is represented by Pedro P. Echarte III and Douglas J. McCarron of the Haggard Law Firm PA in Coral Gables and Skinner Louis of the Louis Law Firm PLLC in Orlando.
