ORLANDO – A roofing company alleges an Orlando resident made false statements to law enforcement that it forged her signature.

Jasper Contractors Inc. filed a complaint on June 28 in the 9th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida - Orange County against Kathleen Smith alleging defamation.

According to the complaint, the defendant filed an insurance claim with State Farm regarding the roof on her property, and State Farm hired the plaintiff to perform a roof replacement on the defendant's property. The plaintiff alleges that it completed the work on May 17 and State Farm released the insurance proceeds to the defendant.

The plaintiff holds Smith responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to pay it the final $10,921.74 it is owed under the contract and made false complaints to the Orange County Sheriff's Department and Orange County Building Department that the plaintiff forged her signature on a notice of commencement.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant for injunctive relief and damages exceeding $100,000 plus interest, attorney's fees, costs and further relief that the court deems necessary. It is represented by Trenton H. Cotney and Mason A. Pokorny of Trent Cotney PA in Tampa.
