FORT LAUDERDALE — A property owner is suing Federated National Insurance Company, citing alleged breach of contract.

Sarnia Michel filed a complaint on June 9 in the Broward County Circuit Court, alleging that the insurance carrier breached its duty of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she sustained water damages to her dwelling on Dec. 14, 2016 due to a drain line leak, but despite allegedly filing a claim, the defendant reportedly refused to comply with the insurance policy.

The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly forcing the plaintiff to retain and pay for the services of a legal counsel to represent and protect her interests, and for refusing to pay the full amount of the plaintiff's insurance claim.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant for all covered losses with interest on overdue payments, costs and attorney's fees. She is represented by Joseph P. Abraham III of Abraham Law Group in Miami.
