LAUDERDALE – A Lauderhill consumer alleges a debt collector has been harassing her with calls.
Bassey S. Bassey filed a complaint on Dec. 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Fort Lauderdale Division against Financial Business and Consumer Solutions Inc., doing business as FBCS Inc. alleging violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in January 2016, the defendant began calling her cellphone to collect an alleged debt and she requested that it stop calling. The plaintiff holds Financial Business and Consumer Solutions Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly used an automatic telephone dialing system to call plaintiff's phone, has refused to disclose that it is a debt collector in its calls or provided information as to the nature of the call.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks injunction against the defendant, statutory damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by John P. Murray of Hyslip & Taylor LLC, LPA in Coral Gables.
