Man says Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada owes him benefits

Insurance 05

PENSACOLA, Florida — A man is suing Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, citing alleged breach of contract.

Michael S. Adams filed a complaint on Nov. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida against Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, alleging that the insurance firm improperly denied his claim for disability benefits.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in 2014 he became disabled and was initially being paid disability benefits until they were terminated. The plaintiff holds Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada responsible because the defendant allegedly upheld its decision to deny the plaintiff's disability benefits despite his disability under the terms of the plan.

The plaintiff seeks all plan benefits owing, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as this court deems just. He is represented by Nick A. Ortiz of Ortiz Law Firm in Pensacola.
