MIAMI – A Broward County woman alleges she was harmed by a letter sent by a debt collector because the letter failed to state the name of the creditor.

Joan M. Howard filed a complaint on Sept. 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against Amsher Collection Services Inc. citing the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May, the defendant mailed her a collection letter regarding a purported debt from cellphone service. The plaintiff holds Amsher Collection Services Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to disclose the identity of the creditor in the letter it sent the plaintiff, a violation of the FDCPA.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just. She is represented by Donald A. Yarbrough in Fort Lauderdale.
