Man sues Hartford Life over alleged denial of benefits

TAMPA – A former employee of Wood Group Management Services Inc. alleges that his insurance company denied his disability benefits.

Todd Caouette filed a complaint on March 9 in the Tampa Division of the Middle District of Florida against Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Co., citing violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between Nov. 11, 2013, and April 1, 2014, he received benefits under the long-term disability plan, and that the defendant terminated them on April 2, 2014. The plaintiff holds Hartford Life and Accident Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly stated that Caouette no longer met the policy definition of disability as stated in the plan, but the plaintiff claims he does.

The plaintiff seeks the following: benefits totaling $129,666.67, prejudgment interest, reasonable attorney fees and cost and for any further relief that the court may deem just and proper. He is represented by William C. Demas of Tucker & Ludin PA in St. Petersburg.
