Deanna Rodopoulus has filed a lawsuit against a well-known furniture retailer, accusing them of negligence after an incident that resulted in serious injuries. The complaint was lodged on February 12, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, against City Furniture, Inc., doing business as Ashley Furniture Homestore.
According to the court documents, Rodopoulus visited the Ashley Furniture Homestore located at 2101 Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach on April 3, 2024. She was there as a business invitee to browse potential furnishings for her home. During her visit, she became interested in purchasing a picture mounted on the wall and sought assistance from a store employee. The employee instructed her to remove the picture herself if she wished to purchase it. As Rodopoulus attempted to take down the photograph, some hardware used to hang it fell onto the ground where she stood. In trying to reach for the picture, she stepped on this sharp hardware, puncturing her right foot and causing significant injuries.
The plaintiff alleges that Ashley Furniture had a duty to ensure customer safety and warn of any known hazards. However, they breached this duty by failing to properly secure the photograph on the wall and not assisting Rodopoulus with its removal. Furthermore, they did not warn her about potential dangers associated with poorly hung items or implement adequate policies and procedures for customer safety regarding merchandise handling.
Rodopoulus claims that due to these breaches of duty by Ashley Furniture, she suffered severe bodily harm resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life’s pleasures, medical expenses including hospitalization and nursing care costs as well as lost earnings both past and future due to diminished earning capacity.
In her lawsuit filed through Morales & Freshman law firm based out of Miami (with Eric C. Morales serving as attorney), Rodopoulus seeks damages exceeding $50,000 exclusive of legal fees along with any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. She also demands a jury trial for all issues eligible under law.
