Youseline Romain has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, alleging discrimination based on sex and pregnancy. The complaint was filed on January 29, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, targeting South County Mental Health Center, Inc., a Florida non-profit corporation.

The case centers around Romain's claims that she faced discriminatory treatment from her employer after disclosing her pregnancy. Employed as a Mobile Response Technician since September 20, 2021, Romain alleges that upon informing her supervisor, Mr. Desrosiers, of her pregnancy on October 1, 2023, she was subjected to unwarranted disciplinary action and subsequently terminated on October 3, 2023. The complaint asserts that the write-up issued by Desrosiers was fabricated and pretextual, intended solely to justify her termination due to her pregnancy.

Romain's lawsuit accuses South County Mental Health Center of violating the Florida Civil Rights Act (FCRA), which prohibits employment discrimination based on sex or pregnancy. She argues that any justification provided by the defendant for her termination is merely a cover for unlawful discrimination. The complaint highlights that Romain had been performing her duties satisfactorily and possessed all necessary qualifications for her role.

In seeking justice through the court system, Romain requests several forms of relief. She asks for compensatory damages for emotional distress and economic losses resulting from her termination. Additionally, she seeks a permanent injunction against the defendant to prevent further discriminatory practices and demands reinstatement to her previous position or an equivalent one with full benefits restored. Furthermore, Romain seeks punitive damages due to what she describes as malicious actions by South County Mental Health Center.

Representing Youseline Romain is attorney Daniel H. Hunt from Miami. The Case ID is: 502025CA000896XXXAMB Div: AD.
