In a dramatic legal move, a Palm Beach County resident has filed a lawsuit against a prominent local casino, alleging negligence after a slip-and-fall incident. On January 23, 2025, Rubenia Andino filed the complaint in the Circuit Court for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, against PPI Inc., doing business as Harrah’s Pompano Beach.
The lawsuit stems from an incident on April 3, 2023, when Andino claims she was injured after slipping on wet bathroom tiles at Harrah's Pompano Beach Casino. According to the complaint, the floor was covered with several small puddles of water that were not marked with any warning signs. The plaintiff asserts that this dangerous condition had been present long enough for the casino staff to have noticed and addressed it. "Defendant...knew of or should have known of the aforementioned dangerous condition," states the complaint, citing evidence such as footprints and dirty streaks through the water.
Andino alleges that her injuries from this fall were severe and life-altering. She claims they led to a subsequent fall on June 25, 2024, exacerbating her initial injuries and resulting in further harm. As per her allegations, these incidents have caused permanent bodily injury and other significant damages including loss of income and earning capacity.
The plaintiff accuses PPI Inc. of failing to maintain safe premises and neglecting their duty to warn patrons about potential hazards. She argues that by not placing appropriate signage or blocking off hazardous areas, Harrah’s Pompano Beach acted negligently. The complaint also suggests that there was either no procedure for regular inspection of the premises or failure to adhere to such procedures if they existed.
Rubenia Andino is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for her injuries and associated losses. She demands compensation for medical expenses incurred both past and future, as well as damages for pain and suffering endured due to what she describes as "permanent and continuing" injuries.
