Craig E. Rothburd, P.A.— a Tampa-based law firm that has made pro bono service an integral part of the firm’s ethos — will receive the 2025 Law Firm Commendation from Chief Justice Carlos G. Muñiz at the annual Pro Bono Awards ceremony Jan. 16 at the Supreme Court of Florida. The commendation honors significant contributions in the delivery of legal services to individuals or groups on a pro bono basis.
Under the leadership of Attorney Craig E. Rothburd, this small firm has consistently demonstrated a deep-seated dedication to serving the underserved.
Rothburd’s pro bono service has included handling debt defense cases, foreclosure defense and automobile fraud cases, often taking several pro bono cases at a time. In addition to these direct services, Rothburd inspires other lawyers to do the same, serving as speaker at legal aid conferences, where he shares his expertise on the complexities of consumer matters and the tools lawyers can use to help communities in need.
In 2021, Craig E. Rothburd P.A. expanded its team with the addition of attorney Dylan Thatcher. Thatcher’s energy and experience have further enhanced the firm’s ability to serve its community.
Rothburd and Thatcher have provided legal assistance to individuals, veterans, seniors, and others in need, offering advice, consulting, and representation in a variety of legal matters including landlord tenant cases, and defending and prosecuting claims on behalf of consumers for fraud and violations of consumer protection statutes. Moreover, their involvement in organizations such as The Florida Bar’s Consumer Protection Law Committee and Bay Area Legal Services’ Board of Directors underscores their commitment to effecting positive change both inside and outside the courtroom.
During Rothburd’s service as chair and vice chair of The Florida Bar’s Consumer Protection Law Committee, he organized several “Ask a Lawyer” events to assist the most vulnerable with free legal advice and services. The law firm also provides continuing legal education specifically to legal services attorneys so they may better provide their services to their clients. Most recently, Rothburd helped organize the Florida National Association of Consumer Advocates Consumer Law Conference held in January 2024.
This year’s awards ceremony, which also honors Individual, Circuit, Voluntary Bar, Young Lawyers Division, Distinguished Judicial Service, and Distinguished Federal Judicial Service pro bono efforts, takes place at the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 3:30 p.m. Watch it live on Facebook, WFSU: Gavel to Gavel and the Florida Channel.
