Jessica Irizarry, acting as the power of attorney for Julio Torres, has filed a lawsuit against Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Inc., alleging negligence in the care provided to Torres. The complaint was filed on December 23, 2024, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The case centers around events that began on December 3, 2022, when Julio Torres was admitted to Boca Raton Regional Hospital with multiple medical conditions including atrial fibrillation and acute kidney injury. At the time of his admission, Torres was intoxicated and required medical management. During his stay at the hospital, he developed severe complications such as an unstageable sacral wound and a deep tissue injury on his left heel. The plaintiff alleges these injuries were due to negligence by the hospital staff.

According to the complaint, the hospital failed in several key areas: assessing Torres's risk for skin breakdown consistently; implementing effective preventative skin interventions; maintaining accurate wound records; and providing adequate wound treatment despite deteriorating conditions. Specific failures included inconsistent documentation of wound assessments and inadequate application of barrier creams or other treatments. The complaint also accuses the hospital of falsifying records regarding the sacral wound's origin.

Irizarry asserts that these failures led to significant pain and suffering for Torres, alongside substantial medical expenses. She claims that one or more nursing staff members did not provide appropriate assistance and supervision during Torres's stay at the hospital. The lawsuit contends that Boca Raton Regional Hospital breached its duty to provide care consistent with professional standards recognized by similar healthcare providers.

The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for bodily injury resulting in permanent pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of life enjoyment capacity, and expenses related to hospitalization and rehabilitation. Irizarry demands a jury trial for this case.

Representing Jessica Irizarry is Scott M. Fischer from Gordon & Partners P.A., while Joseph Abruzzo serves as Clerk for Palm Beach County where this case is filed under Case Number: 502024CA012114XXXAMB Div: AK.
