Kayla Hall has filed a lawsuit against a prominent Florida medical facility, alleging negligence that led to severe physical and emotional trauma. The complaint was lodged by Hall in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on October 8, 2024, targeting St. Mary’s Medical Center, Inc.

The case revolves around an incident that occurred on April 1, 2022, when Kayla Hall visited St. Mary’s Medical Center for postnatal care following a cesarean section. During her visit to the emergency room at the facility, she became an unintended victim of violence when another visitor attacked her without provocation. The attack resulted in significant injuries including a traumatic brain injury and other physical and mental health issues. Hall asserts that the security personnel at St. Mary’s failed to prevent or intervene during the altercation, thereby breaching their duty of care towards patients and visitors.

Hall claims that St. Mary’s Medical Center was negligent in its responsibilities by not ensuring a safe environment for its patients and visitors. According to the complaint, "Defendant negligently breached its duty(ies) to exercise reasonable care for the safety, health, and well-being of visitors," which included failing to address known dangers within its premises and not notifying law enforcement promptly after the initial crime occurred. As a result of this alleged negligence, Hall suffered from serious bodily injuries leading to ongoing pain and suffering as well as mental anguish that has impaired her ability to care for her children.

The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 exclusive of interest and costs for the injuries sustained due to what she describes as negligence on part of St. Mary’s Medical Center. She demands compensation for medical expenses incurred due to her injuries along with damages for emotional distress caused by the incident.

Representing Kayla Hall is attorney Tayson C. Gaines from North Palm Beach, Florida. The Case ID: 502024CA009667XXXAMB.
