A local business faces serious allegations of negligence after a resident suffered significant injuries on their property. On August 23, 2024, Karan Hausdorf and Ed Hausdorf filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Darko Kalajdzic, doing business as Big Red Dumpster Rental and Hauling.

According to the court documents, the plaintiffs allege that on May 25, 2024, Karan Hausdorf was using an access ladder provided by Big Red Dumpster Rental and Hauling at her property located at 11470 Oakhurst Drive in Seminole, Pinellas County. While descending from the raised dumpster via the access ladder, Karan fell and sustained severe injuries. The complaint details that these injuries resulted in pain and suffering, disability, scarring and disfigurement, mental anguish, inconvenience, loss of capacity for enjoyment of life, aggravation of a pre-existing condition, loss of earnings and earning capacity, and expenses related to medical care.

The plaintiffs argue that Darko Kalajdzic had a duty to maintain the dumpsters and access ladders in a safe manner to prevent any unreasonable risks of harm. However, they claim that this duty was breached when Kalajdzic's company provided a faulty access ladder which created a dangerous condition leading to Karan's fall. "Defendant... breached the above-described duty and created a dangerous condition by providing a faulty access ladder," states the complaint.

Additionally, Ed Hausdorf is seeking damages for loss of consortium due to his spouse's injuries. The complaint notes that Ed has been deprived of Karan’s companionship and assistance as a result of her injuries. The couple is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 excluding costs and have demanded a trial by jury on all issues so triable.

Representing the plaintiffs are attorneys Spencer Jorgensen and Grady Jorgensen from Jorgensen Law P.A., based in St. Petersburg. The case has been assigned Case Number 24-003794-ClI.
