A Miami resident has filed a lawsuit against a major retail corporation for injuries sustained in one of its stores. Rebeca Valera, the plaintiff, filed the complaint against Target Corporation in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida on August 22, 2024.
According to the complaint, Valera alleges that she was injured due to Target's negligence while shopping at their store located at 7795 SW 40th St., Miami, FL. The incident occurred on August 18, 2023. Valera claims that she slipped and fell because of a slippery substance on the floor near the grocery/market department. She asserts that Target failed to maintain safe conditions in this area and did not have proper procedures to identify or warn about such hazards.
The lawsuit outlines several specific allegations against Target Corporation. It states that Target "created and/or permitted a dangerous and unsafe condition" by failing to keep the floors clear of slippery substances. Additionally, it accuses Target of not maintaining the floors properly, failing to inspect for hazardous conditions, and not adequately warning customers about these dangers. Valera argues that Target knew or should have known about these unsafe conditions but did nothing to address them.
As a result of her fall, Valera claims she suffered significant injuries including pain and mental anguish, loss of capacity for enjoyment of life, and permanent injury. She has required medical treatment and incurred related expenses due to her injuries. Furthermore, Valera contends that her ability to work has been impaired leading to loss of earnings both presently and in the future.
Valera is seeking damages exceeding $75,000 from Target Corporation. She demands judgment against the defendant along with a trial by jury for all issues triable in this case.
