In the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, a lawsuit has been filed by plaintiffs Barbara Slakman and Joel Slakman against defendants Jonathan B. Courtney, M.D., Orthopaedic Surgery Associates, Inc., and Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Inc. The case was filed on May 3rd, 2024 under the case number 502024CA004179XXXAMB Div: AO.
The plaintiffs allege that the defendants were negligent in their medical care and treatment of Barbara Slakman which resulted in permanent and significant injuries. The lawsuit claims that during a surgery performed by Dr. Courtney in June 2022, he fractured the patient's acetabulum intraoperatively causing her hip socket to migrate into the pelvis which led to a gram-negative pseudomonas infection as well as diverticulitis and injury to her sciatic nerve.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 which falls within the jurisdictional limits of this court. They have complied with all conditions precedent and pre-suit provisions provided in Florida Statutes 766.106 et seq.
