A former employee of DHL Express is accusing the company of age discrimination.

Mauricio Valencia filed his complaint in federal court against DHL Express (USA) Inc.

According to the complaint, Valencia he was wrongfully terminated May 2, 2023, despite his excellent performance and contributions to the company. He says he was replaced with a younger employee and alleges this is part of DHL's custom and practice to replace older employees regardless of their job performance.

Valencia started working at DHL in May 2020 as a Supervisor at Miami International Airport. He was promoted to Manager in January 2021. Despite his accomplishments and positive reviews from DHL, Valencia was let go under the pretext of violating a company rule relating to the disclosure of personal relationships.

The lawsuit comes after Valencia filed a Charge of Discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), alleging discrimination based on national origin, sex, and age.
