In a lawsuit filed on April 22, 2024, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit, Palm Beach County, Florida (Case No. 502024CA003734XXXAMB Div: AD), Nicolas Luzes is suing the School District of Palm Beach County for damages exceeding $50,000. The plaintiff's attorney alleges that the school district failed to maintain safe conditions at one of its high schools located at 5100 Jog Road, Boca Raton, Florida.

The complaint states that on December 5, 2020, Luzes, then a minor and an invitee on the school premises, was asked by a school district employee to assist in moving a scissor lift. During this task, a large metal bar from the lift fell onto Luzes' finger causing significant injury.

The lawsuit alleges that the School District of Palm Beach County negligently allowed minors to move heavy equipment and failed to summon appropriate personnel for such tasks. It further accuses them of failing to warn students about the dangers associated with operating heavy machinery like the scissor lift.

Luzes is seeking judgment against the School District of Palm Beach County for their alleged negligence which resulted in bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement among other losses. The damages are claimed to be either permanent or continuing and Luzes expects to suffer these losses in future as well.
