A Canadian woman says Celebrit Cruises medical officials caused her more injuries after failing to properly diagnose her brain aneurysm.

Joelle Christina Robinson filed her complaint in federal court against Celebrity Cruises Inc. and Dr. Anselmo Martinez Castillo.

Robinson claims she was misdiagnosed by Castillo, who was working aboard the Celebrity Eclipse on February 7, 2023.

She says she developed a severe headache and began vomiting in her stateroom. Her husband called the medical center, and a nurse said Robinson couldn't be treated if she couldn't get to the medical center. But she has multiple sclerosis and couldn't get there. In the meantime, she says her vomiting worsened, her face began to droop and she lost the ability to speak. Medical staff then decided to send someone from housekeeping with a wheelchair.

Robinson was given pain medication and later a stronger painkiller before she was discharged to her stateroom around 2 a.m. on February 8, 2023. She says she wasn't given a CT scan or any imaging.

The next day, Robinson says she couldn't sit up on her own or lift her arms. Several hours later, she was medically disembarked and taken to a hospital in Australia. A CT scan showed a ruptured brain aneurysm that was actively bleeding. Emergency surgery was performed, but Robinson says she sustained serious long-term injuries because of the delay in treatment resulting from the proper diagnosis on the ship.

Robinson seeks compensatory damages.
