In the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Palm Beach County, Florida, The Recovery Team, Inc. has filed a lawsuit against CDS Investments, LLC and James Baker for discrimination and breach of contract. The case, with ID 502024CA002231 XXXAMB Div: AF, was filed on March 8th, 2024.
The plaintiff's counsel, Cheyenne N. Riker alleges that the defendants discriminated against The Recovery Team due to its service to individuals suffering from substance use disorder. The defendants reportedly expressed disdain for the recovery community and insisted that any reference to "recovery" would be unacceptable at their premises. In addition to this, the defendants demanded payment of approximately $16,000 security deposit and over $28,000 in claimed unreconciled common area maintenance expenses and damages after a walkthrough confirmed no damages to the property.
The Recovery Team is seeking accountability for violations of the Human Rights Ordinance and egregious breach of lease by CDS Investments and James Baker. The damages exceed $30,000 including attorney fees, costs and other damages.
