A woman has accused Circle K of discrimination and retaliation after she says she was sexually assaulted by a customer while working.

Chic’Quara Tinsley Rivers filed a federal lawsuit against Circle K Stores Inc.

According to the complaint, Rivers says she was sexually assaulted by a customer while at work. She claims store management failed to provide appropriate support or action following the incident.

Despite immediately informing her managers about the assault, she says they showed little concern and continued with their meeting. She further claims that instead of receiving help from her employers, they carried on with their daily routine as if nothing had happened.

Rivers alleges this behavior amounts to discrimination and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Florida Private Sector Whistleblower Act. Rivers is seeking declaratory, injunctive and equitable relief along with costs and attorney’s fees.

This case follows a "CAUSE" Determination from the Florida Commission on Human Relations in April 2023 and a Notice of Right to Sue letter from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission received in August 2023.
