Holland & Knight has strengthened its prominent Miami Real Estate Practice Group with the addition of Partner Luis Figueredo. Mr. Figueredo, who will reside in the firm’s Miami office, represents a diverse group of clients, including municipalities, national trade associations, corporations, real estate developers and Indian tribes. He was previously the City Attorney for the City of Doral.
The firm also recently welcomed the former City Attorney for the City of Coral Gables, Miriam Soler Ramos.
Since joining the City of Doral in 2018, Mr. Figueredo has handled a host of legal issues, including drafting and negotiating a wide range of complex governmental contracts, collective bargaining agreements with unions and other employment issues, as well as election matters and environmental and land use matters. He also represented the city in all litigation, procurement and other legal proceedings.
In addition, Mr. Figueredo has worked as special counsel for several corporate clients and has significant experience working on land use and zoning matters, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund), Clean Water Act, Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, Federal Trade Commission advertising rules, and state laws. Earlier in his career, he also served as assistant general counsel to former Florida Gov. Robert Graham.
“Through his hard work and extensive experience, Luis has earned the respect and admiration of many builders and developers for his sensible and even-handed approach to development matters,” said Joseph Goldstein, Holland & Knight’s Miami Real Estate and Land Use Practice Group Leader. “I am confident that he will be a great fit with the culture, focus and spirit of our group, the Miami office and the firm.”
“While at the City of Doral, Luis deftly handled complex land use, zoning and environmental matters for the city. In the process, he has developed strong relationships with the elected officials and governmental staff,” said Joe Guay, Holland & Knight's Real Estate Section leader. “Those relationships will be incredibly valuable to the group as we continue to represent builders, developers and others in land use and zoning matters at the municipal and county levels.”
“I am thrilled to be joining Holland & Knight’s renowned Real Estate Practice, especially at a time of such significant growth for the South Florida region,” said Mr. Figueredo. “The group has incredible depth in municipal law and has been involved in some of the most notable projects in South Florida, including in Doral. Together, we will make a formidable team.”
Mr. Figueredo earned a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School and a B.A. degree from Brandeis University.
