Markenzy Lapointe Receives Professionalism Award from American Inns of Court

Award

Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.

Markenzy Lapointe, a Miami-based Litigation partner, former DOJ prosecutor and co-leader of Pillsbury’s Product Liability practice, was awarded by the Honorable W. Hoeveler and E. Spellman the American Inns of Court’s Chief Justice Gerald Kogan Professionalism Award. The award recognizes a lawyer’s achievements and advocacy results, professionalism and contribution to the community in pro bono and philanthropic endeavors.

The American Inns of Court Professionalism Awards are awarded each year, in participating federal circuits, to a lawyer or judge whose life and practice display sterling character and unquestioned integrity, coupled with ongoing dedication to the highest standards of the legal profession and the rule of law. With the concurrence and participation of the chief judge of the circuit, the award is presented at each circuit’s judicial conference. Winners are also recognized at the American Inns of Court’s annual Celebration of Excellence held at the Supreme Court of the United States.

Lapointe is a seasoned trial lawyer with a varied practice that includes high-stakes commercial, product liability and professional malpractice disputes, as well as criminal investigations. He has previously been recognized by The Legal 500 U.S. as a key member of Pillsbury’s Dispute Resolution: General Commercial Disputes and Corporate Investigations & White-Collar Criminal Defense practices.

Lapointe serves as Co-Chair of Pillsbury’s Advancement of Diverse Attorneys Committee, promoting the retention and advancement of attorneys from diverse backgrounds. A U.S. Marines Gulf War veteran, Lapointe is also heavily involved in the community. He has been recognized by state and federal judges for his pro bono efforts—including one of the longest pro bono Federal Torts Claims Act trials in South Florida—and was awarded the Legal Aid/Put Something Back Pro Bono Award in Child Advocacy and the Daily Business Review’s Most Effective Lawyer Award for Pro Bono in Family Law.
