ORLANDO -- A woman is suing the City of Apopka and the Apopka VFW Post 10147 for negligence in the death of a man.

Chandra Thomas, as personal representative for the Estate of Duane Thomas, filed a complaint on September 8 in Orange County Circuit Court against Apopka/Altamonte Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 10147 and the City of Apopka for negligence.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 26, 2019, Duane Thomas was sitting on a chair provided by Apopka/Altamonte Springs Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post 10147 when suddenly and without warning, the chair collapsed, causing Thomas to fall backwards off of the stage and onto the floor below, resulting in serious permanent injuries and his death.

Chandra Thomas alleges that it was at the fault and due to the negligence of the defendants that the incident happened and Duane Thomas' death ultimately resulted.

Thomas is represented by Gregororio A. Francis and Ryan A. Fletcher.
